Course Administration is a central area for accessing tools related to setting up and managing your course. From here you can access many tools to help you run your course smoothly.

To explore these tools and options, simply click on Course Admin in the course navigation bar. See below for brief descriptions of each option found on your Course Admin page.

Site Setup

  • Availability Date Defaults: provides default settings for Assignment and Discussion availability dates, with opportunities for instructors to make adjustments.
  • Course Offering Information: provides information about the course – such as course name and Start Date, with a few options available for instructors to customize their course.
  • Homepages: opens the Course Homepage interface, through which you can customize your course homepage.
  • Navigation & Themes: opens the NavBar interface, through which you can customize your course navigation bar.
  • Widgets: opens a list of widgets available for use in your course.
Site Resources

  • Calendar: direct access to your course Calendar.
  • Content: opens the Content area of your course.
  • Course Builder: allows you to interact with your course materials, learning experiences, and assessments in one consolidated interface
  • Course Design Accelerator: provides an ordered list of suggestions and links to help you begin the process of getting your course set up and ready for students.
  • External Learning Tools: provides a list of many of the external learning tools available in your course.
  • Frequently Asked Questions: allows you to create an FAQ page for your course.
  • Import / Export / Copy Components: direct access to the interface used for importing, exporting, and copying components to/from your course.
  • Instructional Design Wizard: provides step-by-step guidance for building a course framework, helping instructors set up learning objectives, materials, and assessments in a structured sequence.
  • Learning Activity Library: allows you to view, activate or deactivate, and add to the activity descriptions used in the Instructional Design Wizard by creating custom activity descriptions.
  • Links: allows you to create links for your course, that you can then easily insert using the Insert Stuff tool.
  • Manage Dates: allows you to view and edit course-related dates (e.g., course availability dates, due dates, and content availability dates.
  • Manage Files: allows you to add or remove specific files to your course – which will then be available via the Insert Stuff tool.
Learner Management

  • Attendance: allows you to create registers that track attendance for activities within your course.
  • Class Progress: direct access to the Class Progress tool.
  • Classlist: direct access to the Classlist tool.
  • Groups: direct access to the Groups tool.
  • Locations: direct access to the Locations tool.
Assessment

  • Assignments: direct access to the Assignments tool.
  • Awards: direct access to the Awards tool.
  • Checklists: direct access to the Checklists tool.
  • Competencies: allows you to define, track, and assess learning outcomes or skills within your course, aligning activities and assessments to specific competencies.
  • Grades: direct access to the Grades tool.
  • Quick Eval: provides a consolidated view of student submissions across Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions in all your courses, allowing you to quickly review and complete evaluations in one place.
  • Quizzes: direct access to the Quizzes tool.
  • Rubrics: direct access to the Rubrics tool.
  • Self Assessments: allows you to create opportunities for students to check their understanding and reflect on course material, with immediate feedback but no recorded grades.
  • Surveys: enables you to collect feedback, opinions, or information from students through surveys that are not graded and can be anonymous.
Communication

  • Announcements: direct access to the Announcements tool.
  • Discussions: direct access to the Discussions tool.
  • Intelligent Agents: direct access to the Intelligent Agents interface, useful for monitoring course activity that matches criteria set by you.
Administration

  • Broken Links: displays a list of broken links found in your course, through the Broken Link Viewer.
