The Import/Export/Copy Components tool allows you to copy course components into another course, export course components to a zipped file, and import course components from an external source.

This tool can be accessed through Course Admin.

How-To Guides & More Information

Course Components +

Course components include items attached to each tool in eLC (e.g., Content, Quizzes, Intelligent Agents, etc.). In addition, the list includes options to copy special settings you’ve incorporated for your course appearance, release conditions and display settings.

To see the full list of available options, follow the options for Copying or Exporting components (below), and opt for Select Components.

Copying from Another Course +

  1. Go to the course into which you want to copy content.
  2. From the course navbar, click Course Admin.
  3. Find and click Import / Export / Copy Components.
  4. Choose Copy Components from Another Org Unit, then click Search for Offering.
  5. A new window will open. In this new window, type in the name of the course you would like to copy from, then click the magnifying glass or push enter on your keyboard to begin the search. Once you have located the course, select it with the radio button to the left and click the Add Selected button.
  6. If you want to copy all of the content from a course, choose Copy All Components. If you only wish to copy portions of the course content, choose Select Components.
  7. Select the components you wish to copy. If you are copying Content, make sure that Include Associated Files is checked, and make sure to also copy Content Display Settings. This will ensure that the links to the content are not broken. When you are finished choosing which components to copy, click Continue.
  8.  Confirm your selections, then click Finish.
  9. When the copying process has completed, click View Content. Go through your course and check to make sure that items have copied over as expected.

Exporting Out of eLC +

Most of your course materials can be downloaded into a .zip file by following these steps:

  1. Open your target course and click on Course Admin in the course navigation bar.
  2. Select Import / Export / Copy Components.
  3. Choose Export as Brightspace Package* and Start.
  4. Select All Components.
  5. Click Continue and Export.
  6. Download the .zip file and save to a UGA-maintained computer and/or a UGA OneDrive, Sharepoint, or Google Drive account.

*The Brightspace Package export option is your most complete export option for courses. The resulting .zip file will include all materials that have been uploaded to the course, as well as Brightspace-specific .xml files. The .xml files can be viewed by importing the .zip file into a new course shell in eLC (see below for instructions). See the D2L Brightspace Community help page for details on alternative options for exporting course components.

Student Work

Student assignment submissions, quiz attempts, and grades cannot be exported through this tool. Instead, see our pages on Downloading Student Submissions, Downloading Quiz Attempts, and Exporting the Gradebook.

A Note about Videos

Video files that were uploaded and stored as course files will be included in .zip file generated by a Brightspace Package export (see above). To view and download from a list of individual course files, navigate to Course Admin and then to Manage Files.

Videos stored in Kaltura will remain available through Kaltura and need not be downloaded from your course. Videos saved in the media library will not be removed at this time. You can access them in a new course by following these steps:

  1. Open a new course where you want to use the video.
  2. Navigate to the Content tool.
  3. In a new module, click the Existing Activities button.
  4. Select Media Library from the options.
  5. Browse and select your previously uploaded videos associated with your eLC account.

The Media Library content is also accessible via Insert Stuff button in an HTML Editor.
